Roadside Station[Misogi-no-Sato Kikonai]

Misogi-no-Sato Kikonai acts as a hub for tourism to the area, and encompasses the Hokkaido Shinkansen Kikonai Station. It is located right in front of both the Hokkaido Shinkansen and South Hokkaido Railway stations, providing access to Matsumae and Esashi, or Hakodate on the local bus system.

Kikonai Cold Weather Purification Ritual Walk

Take a walk with a guide from Kikonai Station. Stop in at pubs, confectioneries, gift shops and enjoy sampling drinks, sweets and look for the perfect souvenir, and finish the journey experiencing the famous Cold Weather Purification Ritual that has a history of over 180 years.

Tourist Information

Kanrin Maru and Cape Saraki

The resting place of Kanrin Maru, the first Japanese ship built at the end of the Edo period, to sail across the Pacific Ocean. In May, the ship is decorated with approximately 50,000 colorful tulip lights that illuminate the ship.

Donan Torokko Railway

The Donan Torokko Railway is a facility where you can experience riding a torokko (orbital bicycle) using the track of about 2.9 km, which was abolished in May 2014.

Shinkansen Viewing Location

This Shinkansen viewing location is about 3 kilometers and about 4 meters high towards Seikan Tunnel from the Hokkaido Shinkansen. You can see the Shinkansen bullet trains running on the straight railroad tracks that pass through the mountains.

Local Museum "Ikarinkan"

The Kikonai Town Local Museum "Ikarinkan" opened utilizing a former elementary school building. A wide variety of railway materials are displayed, drawing from the wealth of experience of Kikonai Town, also known as a railway town.

Samegawa Shrine

Samegawa Shrine is a shrine located at the foot of Mt. Yakushi in Kikonai Town. It takes about an hour's drive from Hakodate to the southwest. It was founded in 1625. 4 young men who have been selected confine themselves in Samegawa Shrine from January 13th every year. They cleanse themselves with fresh water day and night many times. On January 15th, they dive in Tsugaru Strait, holding 4 gods, praying for a rich catch and harvest for the year. The shrine is the center of the traditional event, the Kanchu Misogi Festival.
