As the Shinkansen exits the Seikan Tunnel and enters Hokkaido, it makes it first stop at Kikonai Station, the hub for nine localities in the West of southern Hokkaido. The area is known as the origin of Hokkaido, rich with history and culture that has been passed down from medieval times.
